Coach Olsen has a large number of aspiring soccer players on this year’s Pirate roster

Pirate Soccer Coach RJ Olsen has a large group of kids on his roster this spring as over 35 reported for the team when practice began a few weeks ago.

Along with the nearly 40 team members, the managers are Litci Marroquin, Emma Heins and Hilary De La Rosa.

Team captains are Uvaldo Camarillo, Abdikadar Abdi and Wilmar Marroquin.

Abdi was also all-state honorable mention in 2017 and in 2016 he was second team.

Coach Olsen said, “Key returners are Camarillo, Abdikadar Mohamed, Carlos Cruz and Wilmer Marroquin. Roberto Lopez will be our starting goal keeper.”

Returning letter winners are  Wilmer Marroquin, Camarillo, Carlos Cruz, Abdikadar Mohamed, Wilson Sajcap, Samter Alis, Abdi Alis, Abdikarim Abdi,. Also returning are Marnol Mejia and Manuel Nunez who lettered in 2016 and are back on the team this year.

According to the coach, newcomers and freshmen to watch will be Abdinijib Galbed, Jefry Lopez, Diego Nunez and Gevinson Toj.

This past Tuesday the Pirates were slated to play at Waterloo East and Saturday morning they are to play in a tournament at Hudson beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 10 both the junior varsity and varsity are scheduled to play at Decorah.
