Closings, cancellations and postponements

The following closings, cancelations and posponements are related to the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) pandemic. This information will be updated as information becomes available.

City of Postville

Effective immediately and until further notice, City of Postville has elected to close offices to the public to limit the spread of covid-19. The goal is to protect the citizens and employees of Postville from further spread of this virus. Our employees will continue to work to perform essential city services.  Please contact us by phone 563-864-7454 if you have questions or need utility account information.  All utility payments can be placed in the city drop box.

 

Fidelity Bank & Trust

Regular lobby hours will be suspended at all branches, beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020 until further notice, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Branches with drive up facilities will be open regular hours to accommodate your banking needs. Please call the branch to make an appointment for loans, new account and safe deposit box access.

 

Freedom Bank

Freedom Bank locations on Monona, Postville, Elkader, Waukon and Decorah will provide services through its drive-up windows.

 

NEIT

The NEIT office in Monona is closed to the public. Service and business operations continue.

 

Farmers Union Cooperative

All offices are closed to the public while services and business operations continue.

 

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center

   MercyOne Elkader Medical Center will not allow visitors in its facilities. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for:

   • Children admitted to the hospital
   • Patients receiving end-of-life care

   For approved exceptions, only one visitor per patient will be allowed. They must be:
   • 18 or older
   • Either immediate family members, powers of attorney, guardians or patient
representatives
   • Healthy with no symptoms of illness including respiratory or fever

 

Gundersen Health System

If you are sick, please call us before you come in.

Mildly ill patients should be encouraged to stay home and contact their healthcare provider by phone for guidance about clinical management. Patients who have severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, should seek care immediately. Older patients and individuals who have underlying medical conditions or are immunocompromised should contact their physician early in the course of even a mild illness.

Gundersen suspends all hospital and clinic visitors  

Gundersen Health System understands the importance of engaging families as part of the healing process. However, to protect our patients, staff and community during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are restricting all visitors to our Hospitals, Emergency Services and Clinics until further notice.   

Our policy is in line with other state and national guidelines to limit gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  

Anyone dropping off and picking up patients should wait outside unless they need support in communicating. 

There will still be exceptions for end-of-life, interpreter/communication needs, surgery, Labor and Delivery, emergency room and pediatric patients. 

Visitor restrictions are temporary and may change as Gundersen monitors the COVID-19 situation locally, regionally and nationally. 

 

Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, announces visitor restrictions

   Beginning Wednesday, March 18, all visitors to Veterans Memorial hospital will be restricted.  This is in an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus within the hospital.

   In the event of a special circumstance, such as a terminal patient, family members may call the hospital at 563-568-3411 and speak with the charge nurse about the situation.

Other VMH changes ...

   Anyone with flu-like symptoms that is requesting to be tested for COVID-19 must meet all criteria to qualify for a test.   Screenings will be performed over the phone by calling the hospital at

563- 568-3411 and asking for the COVID-19 phone line.

   Other restrictions have also been put into effect immediately at Veterans Memorial Hospital.  All outpatients and visitors with special circumstances should enter through the hospital’s main entrance where they will be screened at the door.

   Urgent care patients are asked to call the hospital at 563-568-3411 to set up an appointment ahead of time, especially if coming in with respiratory symptoms. 

   Emergency patients are still asked to come to the ER entrance of Veterans Memorial Hospital.

   There will be no immunization clinic on Wednesday, March 18, and there will be no foot clinic Monday, April 6.  All classes, support groups, community wellness laboratory testing, and all other public programs have been cancelled until further notice.

   Veterans Memorial Hospital will continue to post updates through the local newspapers and radio stations as well as the hospital’s Facebook page and website at www.veteransmemorialhospital.com

 

Postville Public Library

   Postville Public Library is closed until further notice.

 

Postville Newspaper office closed to the public

   The Postville Herald office in Postville is closed to the public. The newspaper will still be printed and will answer and respond to both telephone (563-864-3333) and e-mail: Sharon Drahn sharon@postvilleherald.com; Nicole Vega neisales.MAP@gmail.com; Nadine Brock nadine@postvilleherald.com. News tips and submissions of any kind are greatly appreciated. The Postville Herald office will reopen once the danger of community spread of the COVID-19 virus has passed. 

 

Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center

NEIAWRC is closed until further notice.

 

Luana Community and Recreation Center

   The Center will be closed through at least March 31 following Gov. Kim Reynolds’ declaration of a Public Health Emergency .

 

Bars and Restaurants

Northeast Iowa bars and restaurants are not permitted to allow dine-in service due to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ declaration of a Public Health Emergency. The following area eating establishments have announced that they have carry-out service available:

Postville Schools and School Activities will be Closed until April 13, 2020

Postville Schools will not pursue online learning during this break.

The next board meeting is April 6. The board will make decisions regarding the school calendar for the rest of this school year.

All activities are cancelled during this school closure. 

School Grab and Go Lunches will be available for pick up from March 18 to 27

  • View Grab and Go lunch menu

  • Breakfast pickup time is 9:00 am to 9:30 am.

  • Lunch pickup time is between 11:30 am to 12:00 pm (noon).

  • Groups picking up meals should be 10 people or less at a time

  • Meals can be picked up at the Elementary Building.

  • Questions about the meal can be emailed to website@postville.k12.ia.us

Allamakee County Board of Supervisors

Effective immediately and until further notice, Allamakee County has elected to close their offices to the public to limit the spread of COVID-19.  The goal is to protect the citizens and employees of Allamakee County from further spread of this virus.  Our employees will continue to work to perform essential county services. **Doors are unlocked and Clerk of Court offices in the courthouse are still open to the public** County office doors are locked. Please contact the appropriate Department by phone if you have questions regarding services. County Departments and phone numbers are available on the county website if you need to contact an office – Go to www.allamakee.us for this information.

 

Clayton County offices

   Nearly all Clayton County offices are closed until further notice, though essential public services will continue. Appointments are required.

   Law Enforcement Center and services will continue with extra protocols in place. Essential court proceedings are still taking place.

   The Clayton County Board of Supervisors recommend suspending all public gatherings at this time.

Healthy Postville event

   The Healthy Postville event has been postponed until sometime this summer.

Postville Cemetery Association’s annual meeting has been canceled.

Good Samaritan Fish Fry

   The Good Samaritan Society, Postville Fish Fry, which had been scheduled for Friday, March 27, has been canceled.

Allamakee County Dairy Banquet

   Due to the current circumstances of COVID-19 troubling our county, the decision has been made by the Dairy Promotion Board to postpone our county dairy banquet.

AMVETS Post #27 Fish Fry

   The Fish Fry set for April 3 has been canceled. There will be a drawing for raffle prizes April 3 among tickets that were already sold.
