City Council approves water rate schedule and a boulevard paving deferral agreement

The Postville City Council, meeting in regular session Monday, September 10, approved a resolution to request the assistance of the staff of Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission as well as a resolution adopting policies compliant to the 2018 CDBG (community development block grant) for the Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation All resolutions were accepted with unanimous approval.

Council members discussed prices for weed spraying for community properties. Following the discussion, Council person Ross Malcom suggested that more bids be requested. The matter was tabled until further bids can be researched.

A matter that had been discussed at length at previous meetings, boulevard paving deferral, was approved. The agreement says in part, property owners in violation of the ordinance would be offered a boulevard enforcement plan The City would choose three (or more) properties to be paved each year. Property owners whose boulevards would be paved, would have up to three years to pay the cost. They would be assessed 3% interest over the three year period. The measure passed by a 4-1 margin with council person Malcom casting the opposing vote.
