City Council addresses generator issues and fire department budget spending discussed

The regular meeting of the Postville City Council opened with a public hearing concerning the proposed sale of five lots in Block Eight of Lawler’s  Addition. There was no written or oral comments presented concerning the sale. Jeremy Jostand, who was present at the meeting, explained to the Council his proposal to build a four-plex apartment type complex on the lots on Stoneman Street. Jostand purchased the lots in exchange for $1.00 and associated costs.

A resolution was passed to approve the lease property located in the parking lot along East Williams Street to US Cellular for the construction of a tower. A rental fee of $700 per month will be assessed for the lease of the property.

John Foels and his wife, Gwen, who have built a new home in the  Southern Comfort Subdivision on the Southeast edge of Postville, asked that the sewer and water hook-up fees be waived. Mr. Foels, who was present at the meeting, was commended on the new home and following a motion by Council person Ross Malcom, the fees, in the amount of $575 were waived.
