Area fourth graders make stocking caps for themselves as well one to share with those in need

Members of the fourth grade classes at Cora B. Darling School put away their books and pencils for a brief time Wednesday morning as they participated in a community service project which will help kids in the area stay warm this winter. Each of the fourth graders made at least two fleece-tied stocking caps, one of which they could keep, and the other to be donated to children in need.

The idea was the brain-child of fourth grade teacher RJ Olsen and his wife, Jennifer, who had participated in a similar project when they had chaperoned a youth trip to Detroit, Mich. a few years ago. 

The extra hats which were made are being donated to Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation who will, in turn, donate them to area youth.
