Approval of PPEL will support Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center and much more

Tuesday, February 5, 2019, Postville School District voters will have the opportunity to vote for or against the continuation of the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, or PPEL.

The renewal of the voted PPEL is not a new tax but a continuation of the current levy.

One of the many things supported by the PPEL is the Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center. The facility became a reality nearly ten years ago due to the hard work and dedication of many in the community.

The compilation of several years of work with many partners culminated in the addition and upgrade to the 40’s Building.  This facility is used by the community and the school for many functions.  The school district financed the addition and upgrades through a 20-year bond issue.  Currently, the district pays nearly $150,000/year in bond payments which is set to be paid for by 2029.

Again, the PPEL vote will be Tuesday, February 5, 2019, from noon through 8 p.m. The measure will need a simple majority to pass and will take place at the Turner Hall, 119 East Greene Street, Postville.  Voters will be asked to vote yes, for the measure, or no, against the proposal.
