Steve Taylor, a 1980 graduate of Postville High School, has recently realized a dream of opening a pizza restaurant in a most unconventional manner. Within the last year Taylor, who is a 1985 graduate of Iowa State University and 28 year employee of United Airlines, opened Pyra Pizzeria in Norwalk, Iowa.

He explains the transition like this, “After working for United Airlines for over 28 years until they outsourced all the Des Moines jobs in 2014. I was lucky that I met the minimum age for retirement, so I had my flight benefits for life as well as health insurance. My number one takeaway from the airlines is how to treat people right. I knew when I decided to start a restaurant, customer service would be my number one priority.”

Having found his niche in the Pizzeria business, Steve encourages people to follow their dreams and he sincerely welcomes friends, both old and new, from Postville and all over Northeast Iowa to stop for pizza and conversation when they are in the Des Moines area.
